Day four of the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships saw the entire third round completed, of the boys division, in excellent conditions at North Narrabeen. Again the duo of Tamaroa McComb (PYF/Gold Coast, QLD) and Julian Wilson (Coolum, QLD) shone the brightest – gouging and flying over the competition with flair. With excellent conditions again the centrepiece for an amazing day of action, Lincoln Taylor (North Stradbroke, QLD) was in scintillating form – racking up the highest single wave score of the event with a 9.60 (out of a possible 10). Attacking the one metre conditions with power and flair, Taylor buried his rail at every opportunity. The Billabong ASP World Junior Championships recommenced on day three with the final seven heats of the men’s Round 1 before tearing into the dramatic elimination Round 2. The deciding event in the hunt for the undisputed ASP World Junior Title, the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships enjoyed a full day of sunny skies and clean three foot (1 metre) waves at Sydney’s North Narrabeen beach and the world’s best junior surfers revelled, locking in the highest scores of the event. Julian Wilson (AUS), 20, who gained entry into the Billabong ASP World Junior Championships via his win at the VonZipper Trials, rebounded from a morning loss in Round 1 to absolutely decimate his Round 2 heat today, netting the event high heat total of an 18.50 out of a possible 20 to dispatch of Koki Nakamura (JPN). Considered the Oscars of big wave riding, the XXL Awards take place April 11 in Anaheim, California and feature over $130,000 in cash and prizes. In contention for the XXL Ride of the Year Award are three amazing tube rides at Tahiti's legendary break of Teahupoo ("cho-poo") by local MANOA DROLLET ("Droll-lay") and two Hawaiian surfers, IAN WALSH of Maui and SHANE DORIAN of the Big Island. Brazilian CARLOS BURLE ("Boor-lay") was nominated for his tense moment in the curl at Ghost Tree off Pebble Beach, California while young Australian BRENNAN was acknowledged for his airborne entry into a huge barrel at Shipstern Bluff, Tasmania.
